Hippogryph Issue Six
If you’re experiencing a bit of deja vu, then you’ve already read Issue Four and Issue Five. Thanks! For those just tuning in, this “quaranzine” special is not an issue packed with advice recreating the 1995 medical disaster movie Outbreak at your tabletop. Nor does it delve into the possible armor class protection offed by hazmat suits. Sorry. It’s the third of three issues that I’ve put together in response to the COVID-19 global pandemic. As a professional content creator, if I don’t publish things I don’t get to eat. Because preparation for the needs of my physical and mental health issues took a big bite out of the time normally reserved for working on this zine, I needed to find an alternative solution.
A zine, being a nebulously defined things, can gloriously be whatever the zine maker needs it to be. While I love the format of the early issues of hippogryph, because it works perfectly under normal circumstances, I’m not shackled to it. These are clearly not normal circumstances. Response to the coronavirus has introduced resource limitations. It’s no big deal to the dedicated zinester; this DIY format grew from finding ways around such limitations. Putting together these issues has been more of a creative challenge than an obstacle to be overcome.
Back in the day I ran an RPG blog called UncleBear. It folded in 2009 after a 12-year run. Periodically I’ve made overtures toward bringing it back in some form, but the moment has passed. At one time blogs were the new zines. Now zines are the new blogs, and I’m good with that.
So this issue is made up of previously-written articles not currently available anywhere else. It’s 100% recycled content. These articles have been re-edited and expanded upon where necessary to scrub a few dated references bring them up to 2020 standards. I hope that you enjoy them, and rest assured that I’ll be back to producing entirely new content soon.
